How memory works

What does my companion remember?

• About you: your life, what you enjoy, and your health if you choose to share it.
• Your people: the family, friends and pets you mention, by name.
• Notes from your chats: what you two talked about, day by day, and the threads that run through it.

Each reply also has your last 40 messages (yours and its) in front of it word for word.

How long does it remember?

For as long as you use the app. Memories don't expire. Mention in March that your sister is moving house, and your companion can ask in May how the move went.

When are new memories saved?

In the background while you talk. Your companion writes a note after every 40 messages, and updates its overall picture of you after 150 new messages, or after 40 or more once a week has passed. You don't need to do anything.

To save something right away, press and hold any message in the chat and choose Remember this.

Can I see what it remembers?

Yes. Open your companion's profile and tap What [name] remembers. You'll see three groups: About you, Your people, and Notes from your chats. Health notes are hidden on the list so nobody can read them over your shoulder; tap to open them.

Can I change or delete a memory?

Yes. Tap any entry to read it, then Change to rewrite it or Forget this to remove it. What you write stays as you wrote it. You can also add a person or a note yourself with the + button, or just tell your companion in chat that something has changed.

Does each companion have its own memory?

Yes. If you have more than one companion, each keeps its own private history with you. What you tell one stays between the two of you.

If I clear the chat, does it forget me?

No. Clear chat removes the messages from the conversation, and your companion still remembers what you've shared. To remove a memory, use Forget this on the memory screen.

Is memory included on a free account?

During your free messages your companion has your whole conversation in front of it. Lasting memory, the notes it keeps across weeks and months, comes with the subscription. See plans and pricing.
