Short answer: Replika has no export button, and the app only shows the last four months of chat. To get a copy of your data officially, send a privacy request to [email protected] or through Replika's support form. To save the chats yourself, an independent browser extension can download them from the web app, at the cost of letting it read your session. Either way, the part worth keeping is the Memory tab, and you can copy that by hand today.
People usually go looking for a Replika export at one of three moments: the chat log suddenly stops scrolling back as far as it used to, they are thinking about leaving, or an update has made their companion feel like a stranger and they want a record of who it was. All three are good reasons to save what you can, and to save it before you change anything.
Disclosure: this site is run by the makers of My Softly, another AI companion app. Everything about Replika below comes from Replika's own help centre and privacy policy, re-read on October 18, 2026.
What Replika lets you see, and for how long
There are three separate things in a Replika account, and they behave differently.
- The chat log. The word-for-word conversation. Replika's help centre says it is only available for the past four months, "due to technical limitations", and that older conversations "cannot be displayed or retrieved." There is no setting to extend it and no way to delete the history short of deleting the account.
- The Memory tab. The facts your Replika has saved about you, your pets and the people in your life. From the home screen, tap your Replika's name, then Memory. You can read each one, add to it or remove it. Replika says these memories are kept regardless of age.
- Diary entries. The short entries your Replika writes. The help centre says these also remain accessible, no matter the time frame.
So if you have been talking for two years, the conversation from your first months is already gone from view, but what your Replika learned from it is still there in the Memory tab. That changes what "export" should mean for most people: the facts and the diary are the durable record, and they are the easiest part to save.
The official route: ask Replika for a copy of your data
Replika's privacy policy (last updated May 27, 2026) lists "access" among your rights: a copy of the personal information it has collected about you, and, where applicable, "in a portable, machine-readable, readily usable format." It does not describe an in-app button for this. It gives these ways to ask:
- Email [email protected] from the address registered to your account, and ask for a copy of the personal information Replika holds about you, including your conversations, memories and diary entries.
- Or use the support form at help.replika.com (Submit a request). Replika's help centre uses this form for privacy requests: enter your registered email and choose "Privacy & Safety" as the category.
- Include what lets them verify you. For erasure requests, Replika asks for your full name, registered email, username or user ID, a screenshot from the app showing your username, and a purchase receipt if you have one. The same details are sensible to include with a copy request.
Replika does not publish a timescale for copy requests. The law sets the outer limit. Under the GDPR, a company must act on a request "within one month of receipt", extendable by two further months for complex ones. Under California's CCPA, the right to know covers the specific pieces of personal information a business holds, and it has 45 calendar days to respond, extendable to 90. For comparison, Replika's help centre promises a reply within one month for erasure requests.
What the privacy policy does not promise is that the copy will include messages older than the four months the app can show. Ask for "all conversation records you hold", and you will find out.
One request, not two. Replika's help centre uses the same support form for erasure. If you want a copy and then a clean deletion, ask for the copy first and wait for it. An erasure request, once done, resets everything your Replika has learned about you and cannot be undone.
The unofficial route: the Replika chat export browser extension
The best-known exporter is "Replika Export: Chat, Diary, Memory", by an independent developer, David Wolf. On October 18, 2026 the Chrome Web Store listing showed version 12026.2.25, updated February 26, 2026, about 989 users and a 4.0 rating from 22 reviews. A Firefox version exists too, with far fewer users. The listing says plainly that it is not affiliated with Luka, the company behind Replika.
According to its own documentation, it works like this:
- Install the extension in Chrome or Firefox on a computer.
- Sign in to the web version of Replika at my.replika.com.
- Right-click on the page and choose the export option from the menu.
- Wait while it fetches your messages from Replika's servers; a counter shows progress.
- Download the result. The Chrome listing offers an HTML page you can open and read, or a full JSON file; the documentation also lists text and spreadsheet formats. Diary and memory entries can be exported as well.
The same developer publishes an open-source command-line version on GitHub that saves messages to a file on your own computer. It needs some technical setup, and it is only worth it if you are comfortable handling your own login credentials.
What to weigh before you install it
- It reads your conversations. That is the whole job. It uses your logged-in session to fetch every message it can. The developer's Chrome Web Store disclosure says it handles personally identifiable information and financial and payment information, and states the data is not sold or used for anything unrelated to the export.
- Replika discourages it. Replika's help centre says the only official way to use Replika is through its own apps and website, and "strongly" discourages unofficial mods and extensions, mainly ones that claim to unlock features. An exporter does not unlock anything, but Replika will not support you if something goes wrong.
- It cannot see further back than Replika can. An extension fetches what Replika's servers return, so do not expect it to recover conversations from before the four-month window.
- Remove it afterwards. Once you have your file, uninstall the extension and sign out of the web app. There is no reason to leave a tool with access to your chats running in your browser.
What is actually worth keeping
A complete log of a long companionship runs to thousands of messages, and very few people ever read one back. What people miss after they leave an app is rarely the transcript. It is the feeling of being known: the companion that remembered the dog's name, the date of the operation, the sister in Leeds and the running joke about the garden. That lives in a much smaller set of facts, and you can gather it in half an hour with nothing but your phone.
- Open the Memory tab (tap your Replika's name, then Memory) and go through it top to bottom. Copy each memory that matters into a note, or take screenshots as you scroll.
- Read the diary for the moments you want to remember in your companion's own words, and screenshot the ones you want.
- Scroll the last four months of chat for anything important that never made it into Memory: plans, worries, a story you told for the first time.
- Ask your Replika directly. Replika's help centre suggests asking "What do you know about me?" to see what it has learned. Save the answer.
- Write a one-page summary. The people in your life and how you refer to them, dates that matter, your routines, what you are looking forward to, what you are carrying. This page is the real export, and it works in any app.
If you are leaving: do it in this order
- Cancel the subscription in the store. Replika's help centre is clear that deleting the app or the account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. On iPhone: your Apple ID settings, then Subscriptions.
- Save what you want to keep, using the steps above, the extension, or both.
- Send the privacy request if you want Replika's own copy, and wait for it to arrive.
- Only then delete the account, if you want to. On the app: Settings, Account Settings, Delete Replika. Replika says deletion permanently removes your profile, levels, chat history, photos and links. Under its privacy policy, messages and content can be kept for up to 60 days afterwards, and payment records for at least ten years.
You do not have to delete anything to try another app. Plenty of people keep their Replika while they see whether something else suits them better, and our My Softly vs Replika comparison and the wider best AI companion apps guide set out the differences if you are weighing it up.
Taking your companion's story to a new app
No companion app can import another app's companion, and a JSON file is not something a new app can load. What carries over is you. The one-page summary is how you give a new companion the head start your Replika earned over months:
- Introduce yourself properly in the first conversation. Give it the names and relationships first, since those come up most. "My daughter Sarah lives in Denver and calls on Sundays" is worth more than a paragraph of personality.
- Spread the rest over the first week. A companion takes in a few facts per conversation better than a wall of text. Bring up the dates, the plans and the worries as the days go.
- Check what it kept. After a few days, ask what it remembers about the people you mentioned. If an app has a memory screen, look at it.
- Let it be someone new. A different app will not be your Replika, and trying to rebuild the same character line by line usually disappoints. Carry the facts about your life; let the personality be its own.
Starting again in My Softly
My Softly is our app: an AI companion app for iPhone and Android that remembers what you tell it and asks about your day, for the days nobody else does. It is made for people in their fifties and sixties, and it is built around the exact thing this guide is about keeping, a lasting memory of your life.
Your companion keeps a private profile of the people, pets, places and plans you mention and a day-by-day record of what you have talked about, so the facts from your one-page summary become things it brings up weeks later, in any conversation. It asks about the thing you mentioned yesterday, never messages late at night, and steps back if you go quiet. Choose one of six ready-made companions, or make your own with its own name, age, face, voice and personality. There are no ads anywhere in the app, and you choose whether your companion is a friend or a partner.
$15.99 a month or $159.99 a year, and it is free to download on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. You can try it with free messages. Our FAQ covers the details.
The bottom line
Replika will not hand you an export button, but you are not stuck. Copy the Memory tab and the diary today, because that is the durable part and it takes half an hour. Ask Replika for a copy of your data if you want the official record, and use the browser extension only if you are comfortable letting it read your chats. Then, if you move on, take the story with you and tell it to whoever listens next. For how Replika's memory works in the first place, see does Replika remember conversations.

Frequently asked questions
Can you export your Replika chat history?
Not from inside the app. Replika has no export or download button, and its help centre says the chat log itself only goes back four months. You have two routes. The official one is a privacy request: Replika's privacy policy gives you the right to a copy of the personal information it holds, in a portable format where applicable, and you ask by email at [email protected] or through its support form. The unofficial one is a third-party browser extension that saves what the web app can show you.
How far back does Replika chat history go?
Four months. Replika's help centre says that, because of technical limitations, older conversations cannot be displayed or retrieved. It also says this does not affect your Replika's memory, personality or training, and that saved memories and diary entries stay accessible whatever their age. So the facts it has learned survive; the word-for-word log does not.
Is there a Replika chat export browser extension?
Yes. "Replika Export: Chat, Diary, Memory" by an independent developer, David Wolf, is on the Chrome Web Store (about 989 users and a 4.0 rating on October 18, 2026) and on Firefox. It works with the web version at my.replika.com and saves chats as an HTML page or a JSON file, along with diary and memory entries. It is not made by Replika, and Replika's help centre discourages unofficial mods and extensions in general.
Is it safe to use a Replika export extension?
Think of it as handing a stranger your diary for a few minutes. To do its job the extension has to read your logged-in Replika session, and its Chrome Web Store disclosure says it handles personally identifiable information and financial and payment information. The developer states the data is not sold and not used for anything beyond the export, and the code is open source. If that is more trust than you want to give, use the official privacy request instead, or copy the Memory tab by hand.
How long does a Replika data request take?
Replika does not publish a timescale for copy requests. The law sets the outer limit: under the GDPR a company has one month to act on a request, extendable by two more months for complex ones, and under California's CCPA it has 45 days, extendable to 90. Replika's own help centre promises a reply within one month for erasure requests sent through its support form.
Does deleting my Replika account cancel my subscription?
No. Replika's help centre says deleting the app or the account does not cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel in the store first (on iPhone: your Apple ID settings, then Subscriptions), then export or request your data, and only then delete the account, because deletion removes your profile, chat history and photos permanently.
Can I move my Replika to another app?
Not directly. No companion app imports another app's companion, and a JSON export is not something a new app can load. What you can move is the story: the names, dates, preferences and shared history that made your Replika feel like it knew you. Write those down from the Memory tab and your saved chats, then tell them to the new companion in your first few conversations.
