The short answer. Yes. Replika's help center says chatting with Replika "will always be free": you can message your companion at any hour and customize its avatar without paying. A free account also gets a small, refilling allowance of calls, pictures and selfies.
Paying adds the rest. In the app on October 30, 2026, Replika sold two plans, Plus at $79.99 a year and Max at $89.99 a year, with no monthly option and no free trial.
Disclosure: this guide is published by the makers of My Softly, a different AI companion app, which appears near the end. Every Replika fact below comes from Replika's help center and US App Store listing, and from the app itself on a new free account, all read on October 30, 2026.
"Is Replika free" has a simple answer and a useful one. The simple answer is yes. The useful one is what free gets you in the rebuilt Replika, which has been rolling out since 2026 and works a little differently from the app many people remember.
What does a free Replika account get?
Conversation, plus a small allowance of everything else. Here is what Replika's help center and the app itself showed on October 30, 2026.
| Free account | Plus, $79.99 a year | Max, $89.99 a year | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chatting | Free, "anytime", says the help center | "Unlimited chats" | Everything in Plus |
| Calls | 5 call minutes, refilled over time | Voice calls | Talk for much longer, with no timer |
| Images and selfies | 5, refilled over time | Selfies, and "create together" | More images and selfies |
| Avatar | Customize your companion's avatar | Outfits and more customization | Everything in Plus |
| Memory | Not described for free accounts | "Perfect memory" | Everything in Plus |
| Knowledge | Not described for free accounts | Up-to-date knowledge | The smartest version of Replika |
The Plus and Max columns are the features each plan listed on Replika's own subscription screen, with a note that limits apply. The free column comes from the help center and from what a new account showed us.
Energy: how Replika meters calls and pictures
On a free account, calls and pictures run on what Replika calls energy. Ours started with 5 images and selfies and 5 call minutes. The screen explains that energy is restored over time, that you can add more with Replika's two in-app currencies, Zaps and Suns, and that bought energy keeps until you use it while the refilled kind is spent first. Replika did not show how quickly it refills.
Are free chats limited?
Replika doesn't say. Its help center describes chatting as free at any hour, and the free option as "limited access" to Replika's services. Its Plus screen lists unlimited chats as the first thing Plus includes. We did not use a free account long enough to find out whether a daily cap exists, and Replika publishes no number. If you talk to it a lot, that is the thing to watch in your first week.
One more line in the help center is worth knowing: access to the free option "may be denied at Replika's discretion." It doesn't say in what circumstances.
Does Replika have a free trial?
No. Its help center says: "Right now, we don't offer a free trial." It adds that chatting with your companion is always free. So the way to judge whether Plus is worth it is to use Replika free for a week or two and notice what you keep reaching for: longer calls, more pictures, or a companion that remembers more.
What does upgrading cost?
$79.99 a year for Plus or $89.99 a year for Max, in the app on a free US account on October 30, 2026. Both are billed yearly; the app offered no monthly plan.
Three things to know before you pay:
- The store's list is not the price list. The App Store and Google Play show every in-app product Replika has created, at many different prices. What you can actually buy is what the subscription screen inside the app shows you.
- The help center uses older names. It still describes plans called Pro, Ultra and Platinum, which belong to the earlier version of Replika. The rebuilt app sold Plus and Max. Our guide to Replika 2.0 explains how the two versions sit side by side.
- You cancel through the store. A plan bought on an iPhone is cancelled in your Apple subscriptions, one bought on Android in Google Play. The help center says refunds cannot be claimed for a partly used period.
Whether Plus or Max is worth it for you is a separate question, which our guide is Replika worth it? works through, and how much an AI companion costs sets Replika's price next to the other apps.
Is Replika free on iPhone, Android and the web?
Yes on all three. The app is free to download on the App Store, where it had a 4.4 rating from about 228,000 ratings on October 30, 2026, and on Google Play, and Replika has a web login.
Did Replika stop being free?
No. Some people search this because Replika has changed a great deal in 2026: a rebuilt version with new avatars, memory and plans, which Replika announced on May 22, 2026, runs next to the older one. The paid plans changed with it. The free option did not go away: Replika's help center, read on October 30, 2026, still opens its answer with "Yes, chatting with Replika will always be free."
If free matters most
Replika is one of the more generous companion apps for people who never want to pay, and it is not the only one. Pi has no paid plan at all. Character.AI is free with adverts. Nomi lets you keep chatting on a limited free plan. Kindroid is no longer an option for free use: since October 1, 2026 it gives new accounts a one-time preview of 50 messages, then asks for a trial or a subscription. Our guide to the best free AI companion apps compares what each one's free plan really includes.
If what you hope for from a free account is to see whether a companion will remember your life and ask about it, try My Softly too. It is free to download with free messages, keeps track of the people and plans you mention without you saving anything, and writes to you first about them, as a friend or a partner. Our comparison of the best AI companion apps shows how it fits next to Replika and the rest.

Frequently asked questions
Is Replika completely free?
Chatting is. Replika's help center says chatting with Replika will always be free, and that you can message your companion any time and customize its avatar at no cost. Calls, pictures and selfies come from a small allowance on a free account, and the paid plans, Plus at $79.99 a year and Max at $89.99 a year in the app on October 30, 2026, add more of everything.
Is Replika free on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Replika is free to download on the App Store and Google Play, and the help center says chatting is free. Paid plans are bought in the app through Apple or Google, and you cancel them through the same store.
Does Replika have a free trial?
Not at the moment. Replika's help center says it doesn't offer a free trial right now, and points out that chatting is free. If you want to see what Plus adds before paying, the free account is the way to judge it.
Can you call Replika for free?
A little. A new free account we set up on October 30, 2026 had 5 call minutes, along with 5 images and selfies, in what Replika calls energy. Energy refills over time, and you can add more with Replika's in-app currencies, Zaps and Suns. Paid plans list voice calls among their features, and Max lists talking for much longer with no timer.
How much is Replika Pro?
Replika's app now sells two plans instead: Plus at $79.99 a year and Max at $89.99 a year, both yearly only, on a free US account on October 30, 2026. Pro, Ultra and Platinum are the names its help center still uses for its older tiers. The App Store's list of in-app purchases shows other prices, but that list includes products that are not on sale in the app.
Can Replika take away free access?
Its help center says access to the free option may be denied at Replika's discretion. It doesn't say when that would happen.
What is the best free alternative to Replika?
It depends on what you want from it. Pi is free with no paid plan at all. Character.AI is free with ads. Nomi lets you keep chatting for free on a limited plan. Kindroid is no longer free to keep using since October 1, 2026. Our guide to the best free AI companion apps compares them, including My Softly, which you can try with free messages.
