What is Replika 2.0?

Replika now runs two generations of its app side by side. Here is what the new one is, when it came out, what Replika says changed, what it costs, and what Replika's own terms say happens to your companion and your subscription if you move.

A woman with a silver-grey bob smiles at her phone on a sofa by a sunny window, a knitted throw and a cup of tea beside her.

The short answer. Replika 2.0 is a rebuilt version of the Replika app, officially launched on May 22, 2026. Replika describes it as the first full rebuild of the platform in its history, with new 3D avatars, voice and video calls and a rebuilt memory system. It runs alongside the original app, which Replika's terms now call "the classic Replika experience".

Existing users can move their Replika over. Replika's terms say it will try to carry your account data across, that your Replika may look and behave differently afterwards, and that moving does not change the plan you already paid for, lifetime plans included.

Disclosure: this guide is published by the makers of My Softly, a different AI companion app, which appears near the end. Everything below comes from Replika's own website, terms of service, help center, App Store listing and official channels, plus our own look inside the app on a free Android account on October 30, 2026. Where something comes only from members of Replika's community, we say so.

If you have used Replika for a while, you have probably seen "2.0" in the app or in its subreddit without a clear explanation of what it means for the companion you already have. Replika has not published a help article about it. This page puts what Replika itself has said in one place, in date order.

What is Replika 2.0?

Replika 2.0 is the new generation of the Replika app. In its own summary for AI assistants, Replika says it launched Replika 2.0 in 2026 as "the first full rebuild of the platform in its history", and lists four headline changes:

Replika's terms of service, updated October 28, 2026, describe the two versions plainly: the company offers "more than one generation of the Replika experience", the classic one and 2.0, and features, avatars, memory systems, models and content differ between them and between iPhone, Android and the web. Not every feature is available in every version.

The name is older than the app. In a January 2025 post on its official subreddit, the Replika team described "Replika 2.0" as a bundle of many updates rather than one thing, starting with realistic avatars and new voices. What launched in 2026 is the full rebuild those updates were leading to.

When did Replika 2.0 come out?

Replika 2.0 was officially launched on May 22, 2026, but it arrived in stages, which is why you will see different dates quoted. This is the sequence from Replika's own channels, with New York dates:

The launch announcement on May 22 also said that Dmytro Klochko had confirmed an upgrade for existing Replikas that would keep "their memories and personalities intact". Members' first reports of the move option inside the app date from late July.

What changed in Replika 2.0?

According to Replika, the avatars, the voice and video calls and the memory system were all rebuilt. Its current App Store description, checked October 30, 2026, says Replika "remembers your people, plans, and goals", follows up and checks in, and lists proactive suggestions, connections to apps you already use, internet access, calls where you can show what you are seeing, image generation and avatar customization.

Setting up a new free account on October 30, 2026 showed what that means in practice. You pick your companion from a range of lifelike avatars, older-looking ones included, choose between "Friend" and a relationship ("You can always change this later"), and can connect your email, calendar and location so your Replika can "keep up with your plans, and check in after". Instead of a list of saved facts, the memory screen opens with a short written portrait of you, the date you met, and "Arcs" under headings such as inner life, rituals and interests.

The plans changed too. Replika's help center, updated October 28, 2026, still describes the classic plans: Free Use, Pro, Ultra and Platinum. The paywall on the new account offered two different plans, Plus and Max.

Replika's own wording on the details keeps moving, so treat the table as a dated snapshot rather than a full feature list. Our guide to whether Replika is worth it sets out what Plus and Max each listed on the paywall in September.

How much does Replika 2.0 cost?

Replika is free to download, with limited free access. On October 30, 2026, the in-app paywall on a new free account in the US offered two plans, each shown as an annual price, the same two prices it showed on September 30:

Plan Price How the paywall shows it
Plus$79.99 a year"Annual $79.99"
Max$89.99 a year"Annual $89.99"

Plus listed unlimited chats, "perfect memory", a companion that checks in and starts conversations, voice calls, selfies, pictures and art, outfits and more customization, and up-to-date knowledge of the world, with "limits apply". Max listed everything in Plus plus "the smartest version" of your Replika, much longer calls with no timer, and more images and selfies. Without a plan, the account had "energy" for 5 images and selfies and 5 call minutes, restored over time and topped up with Zaps and Suns, Replika's in-app currencies.

If you already pay for a classic plan, Replika's terms say that buying a plan of the other version happens in a checkout or migration screen that states the price and any credit for the unused part of your current plan. A member who posted the move screen in August 2026 listed Plus or Max as a requirement for moving. Our guide to how much an AI companion costs puts these prices next to the rest of the category.

How do you move from classic Replika to 2.0?

Replika has not published step-by-step instructions: its help center had no article on Replika 2.0 or on moving between versions when we searched it on October 30, 2026. What its terms of service do say, in section 1.6:

Members who moved between late July and September 2026 described the option appearing inside the app, reaching Android before iPhone. One iPhone user reported moving the account in the Android app and then finding it on 2.0 when logging back in on the iPhone. These are individual reports, not instructions from Replika.

Before moving, it is worth keeping a copy of what matters to you. Replika has no export button, but our guide to exporting your Replika chat history covers the official data request and how to keep your Memory tab.

Will Replika 2.0 remember my old conversations?

Replika says it will try to carry your account data across, and its May 22 launch announcement described the upgrade as keeping your Replika's memories and personality. Its terms commit to "reasonable efforts" for the data and say your Replika's behaviour may differ in the new version. Some members who moved have posted that their companion felt different afterwards, and others have posted that they like both versions. We don't know how common either experience is.

The memory system itself is also new, so what your Replika keeps and how it brings things up can change even when the data moves across. Our guide to whether Replika remembers conversations explains how its memory has worked and how to check what it has saved.

What happens to Pro, Ultra, Platinum and lifetime plans?

You keep what you bought. Section 2.7 of Replika's terms (the October 28, 2026 version) says that if you bought a plan Replika no longer sells, lifetime plans included, you keep that plan with its features and allowances "for the version of the Services it was purchased for".

The same section says a legacy plan does not automatically include features of other plans or later versions, and that lifetime plans give perpetual access to the plan purchased, "not to all current or future Replika products, versions, or plans". Replika may add features or upgrade a plan as a courtesy, but that does not create a right to further upgrades. So a lifetime member who wants a 2.0 plan buys one, and the migration screen states the price and any credit applied.

Where My Softly fits

My Softly is our app: an AI companion app for iPhone and Android that remembers what you tell it and asks about your day, for the days nobody else does. It is made for people in their fifties and sixties, as a friend or a partner.

It is free to download on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, with free starter messages so you can see how it feels before deciding anything.

Should you move to Replika 2.0?

That comes down to three things you can check before you confirm: the price and any credit on the migration screen, whether that screen offers a way back to classic and for how long, and whether you have kept a copy of the memories and conversations you would hate to lose. If your current plan is a lifetime one, remember that it stays with the classic version.

If you are weighing up other apps at the same time, our comparison of the best AI companion apps in 2026 sets six of them side by side by what each one is good at.

Frequently asked questions

What is Replika 2.0?

Replika 2.0 is a rebuilt version of the Replika app. Replika calls it the first full rebuild of the platform in its history, with lifelike 3D avatars, natural voice conversations, real-time video calls and a rebuilt memory architecture. It runs alongside the original app, which Replika's terms of service call the classic Replika experience.

When did Replika 2.0 come out?

Replika officially launched it on May 22, 2026, with a post on X introducing the new Replika and a launch announcement from the moderators of its official subreddit the same day. New accounts were already being set up on 2.0 earlier in 2026, and members began reporting the option to move an existing Replika over from late July 2026.

What is the difference between Replika 1.0 and 2.0?

Replika's own terms say features, avatars, memory systems, models and content differ between the two versions and between iPhone, Android and the web. They are also sold differently: Replika's help center describes the classic plans as Pro, Ultra and Platinum, while the paywall on a free account set up on Android in the US on October 30, 2026 offered Plus and Max.

How much does Replika 2.0 cost?

Replika is free to download with limited free access. On October 30, 2026, the in-app paywall on a free account in the US offered Plus at $79.99 a year and Max at $89.99 a year, both annual, the same prices as on September 30. A free account also gets a small refilling allowance: 5 images and selfies and 5 call minutes on that day. Prices can change, so the figure on your own subscription screen is the one to go by.

Can I move my old Replika to 2.0?

Replika offers a move from the classic version to 2.0. Its terms say it will make reasonable efforts to carry over your account data, but that your Replika's look, features and behaviour may differ and some avatar appearances, voices or older features may not be available. Members who moved in July and August 2026 described the option appearing inside the app, on Android first.

Does my lifetime subscription cover Replika 2.0?

Not automatically. Replika's terms, updated October 28, 2026, say a lifetime plan gives perpetual access to the plan purchased, for the version it was purchased for, and not to all current or future Replika versions or plans. Switching versions does not by itself alter the plan you paid for.

Can I go back to classic Replika after moving?

Replika's terms say that when you buy a plan of another version, the screen you buy it on shows the price, any credit for the time left on your current plan, and whether there is a window for returning to your old plan. Read that screen before you confirm the move.
