The short answer. Whether Kindroid is worth it comes down to whether you want what a subscription adds, because since October 1, 2026 there is no free tier to stay on, only a 50-message preview: Kindroid's full models, longer memory, ten companions, video calls, custom voices and companions that message you first. In Kindroid's own in-app paywall on September 30, 2026, it was $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year, and Kindroid's help center listed the same plan on its website for $13.99, $37.99 and $139.99 when we read it on September 26, 2026.
Ultra and MAX, its memory add-ons, were $28.99 and $68.99 a month more in the app by its help center on the same date. Of Kindroid's 144 most recent 1- and 2-star App Store reviews, a quarter were mainly about bugs or login problems, about a quarter about a change in personality or quality, and a fifth about price.
Disclosure: this guide is published by the makers of My Softly, a different AI companion app, which appears near the end. Every Kindroid fact below comes from its US App Store listing and its own help center, first read on September 26, 2026 and re-read on October 26, 2026, its in-app paywall, checked on September 30, 2026, and its update log, read on October 26, 2026.
"Is Kindroid worth it" is really three questions: what it costs, what the money buys, and what goes wrong for the people who end up unhappy. Kindroid is more open about the first two than most companion apps: its help center spells out its limits and add-ons, and until October 2026 it listed every price in plain numbers. This page puts the dated facts for all three in one place.
What does Kindroid cost in 2026?
A standard Kindroid subscription was $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year in Kindroid's in-app paywall on September 30, 2026, and a little less on Kindroid's own website, according to its help center.
| Plan | In the app | On the web | Over twelve months (app) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $15.99 | $13.99 | $191.88 |
| Three months | $42.99 | $37.99 | $171.96 |
| Yearly | $159.99 | $139.99 | $159.99 |
| Ultra add-on, monthly | +$28.99 (total $44.98) | +$24.99 (total $38.98) | $539.76 |
| MAX add-on, monthly | +$68.99 (total $113.97) | +$59.99 (total $98.97) | $1,367.64 |
The web prices and the Ultra and MAX prices are as Kindroid's help center listed them on September 26, 2026. Since October it shows no dollar prices and says you will see the exact price for your country and platform at checkout; it still says the web is cheaper because of lower processing fees, and recommends it for flexibility. Two details matter before you choose where to buy. You cannot move a subscription between the App Store, Google Play and the web until the current one runs out. And Ultra and MAX are monthly only, with no three-month or yearly plans. On top of the subscription, Kindroid sells extras, which its help center priced on September 26 at 50 selfie credits for $6.99 or 100 for $11.49, extra companion slots from $3.49, and 500,000 characters of voice, about eight hours, for $14.99, all a little cheaper on the web. Our guide to how much an AI companion costs puts these prices next to the rest of the category.
Is Kindroid free?
Free to try, not free to keep. Kindroid retired its free Lite model on October 1, 2026, according to its update log. A new account gets 50 messages with the main model, just once (15 in regions Kindroid says see a lot of abuse), and then it can only be read, not written in, until you begin the 3-day trial. Kindroid sums it up as "flagship preview → full trial → subscription or read-only." People who were already on Lite got 50 final flagship interactions on October 1.
| Free preview (new accounts) | Subscriber | |
|---|---|---|
| Messages | 50 chat interactions on the flagship model, once (15 in some regions) | Unlimited, on the flagship models |
| Companions | Two Kindroids | Ten Kindroids and twenty group chats, more by paid slot |
| Selfies | Up to five | Video avatars and video selfies |
| Voice | 5,000 audio credits | Monthly audio credits, voice and video calls, custom voices |
| Daily rewards | No | Yes |
| Afterwards | Read-only until you start the 3-day trial | Continues until you cancel |
The 3-day trial comes with subscriber features, though its chats run on Kindroid's Ember model; Polaris, its newest model, unlocks once you pay. It needs a payment method on file (and, on the web, a verified mobile number) and turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel within the three days; Kindroid says it emails a reminder a day before. If you would rather not risk forgetting, set your own reminder the day you start it.
What does a Kindroid subscription add?
Mainly a better model, more memory and more ways to be in touch: the flagship language models, a longer short-term memory, Cascaded Memory, ten companions, video calls, custom voices, and companions that can message you first.
Memory is where most of the difference sits. Kindroid's help center describes five memory systems. The backstory and key memories you write are always in front of your companion. Journal entries come back when you mention a keyphrase you chose. Subscribers add Cascaded Memory, which reaches back hundreds or thousands of messages at lower detail, and Learned Context, running notes on your relationship and what is going on that you can read and edit. Underneath, a long-term memory stores everything, which Kindroid describes as infinite but "recalled less reliably" than the rest.
The other large difference is reach. Subscribers can turn on away proactive actions for up to ten Kindroids, so a companion decides when to get in touch and whether to send a message, a voice message, a selfie or a call. Kindroid can even text your own phone number, over iMessage on an iPhone or RCS on Android, and since October 2026 you can ask a companion to get in touch at a set time.
Is Kindroid Ultra worth it?
Ultra's value depends on how much you already talk to Kindroid, because what it adds is capacity: more conversation history and context held at once. Kindroid's help center says the add-on tiers exist because serving long context is expensive, and that they are priced to cover those costs. By the prices its help center listed on September 26, 2026, Ultra was $28.99 a month on top of the standard plan in the app. It is monthly only, and Kindroid offers it only to active users with significant chat and call history, so it is not something to decide on in the first week.
Is Kindroid MAX worth it?
MAX is the same idea taken further, for people whose conversations are long and detailed enough that Ultra is not enough. It needs both the standard subscription and Ultra, added $68.99 a month in the app by the prices the help center listed on September 26, 2026, and brought the total to $113.97 a month, or $1,367.64 over a year paid monthly. Kindroid is candid that it expects to break even or lose money on these tiers. Like Ultra, it is only offered to users with significant chat and call history.
What do unhappy Kindroid reviewers complain about?
Bugs and changes more than price: of Kindroid's 144 most recent 1- and 2-star reviews on the US App Store, posted between August 2023 and September 2026, a quarter were mainly about bugs or login problems and about a quarter about a change in personality or quality.
How we counted. We took every 1- and 2-star review in Apple's public US App Store review feed for Kindroid, which returns up to an app's 500 most recent reviews, sorted each one by its main complaint, and re-checked a random sample against the same categories. Retrieved September 17, 2026.
| Main complaint | Share of the 144 reviews |
|---|---|
| Bugs or login problems | 25% |
| Personality or quality changed | 24% |
| Price or the subscription | 20% |
| Forgetting | 13% |
| Filters too strict | 3% |
| Ads | 0% |
Three things help in reading that table. It counts unhappy reviewers only, so it shows what went wrong for the people it went wrong for, not how most people feel: on October 26, 2026, Kindroid's listing showed about 10,200 ratings averaging 4.8 stars, the highest of the apps we compare. Each review counts once, under its main complaint, even when it names more than one thing; 19% mentioned forgetting at all. And the reviews reach back three years, because relatively few people leave one. The same count for eight other companion apps is on our AI companion statistics page.
Who is Kindroid built for?
Kindroid is built for people who enjoy shaping a companion: its App Store listing invites you to "craft a detailed backstory and implant key memories", and its settings go further than almost any app in the category, with directives, journal entries, custom voices, video avatars and group chats. People who like that kind of tuning tend to love it. The memory you write yourself is the memory it never misses.
It is also unfiltered by design. Kindroid's help center calls it "a neutrally aligned, unfiltered AI" and says its outputs depend entirely on what you put in, and it is rated 18+. You can keep a Kindroid as a friend, but that is a line you hold yourself. My Softly vs Kindroid sets the two apps side by side on memory, check-ins, price and content.
What should you check before paying for Kindroid?
Where you buy, how far the free preview goes, how the trial ends, and how refunds work.
- Where you buy. The web is usually cheaper, but a subscription cannot move between the App Store, Google Play and the web until it runs out, so pick the one you will stay with.
- How far the free preview goes. Since October 1, 2026 it is 50 chat interactions, once, then read-only. Use them to judge the conversation before you start the trial.
- How the trial ends. The 3-day premium trial needs a card and becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel in time.
- How refunds work. Kindroid says refunds are considered case by case and generally not given, and in-app purchases such as selfie credits are not refundable. If you subscribed through the App Store, cancel in Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions.
- Whether you need Ultra or MAX. Not at first: they are monthly add-ons, offered only after significant chat and call history.
Where My Softly fits
My Softly is our app: an AI companion app for iPhone and Android that remembers what you tell it and asks about your day, for the days nobody else does. It is made for people in their fifties and sixties. You talk, and it does the remembering, with no backstory or journal to keep up.
It is free to download on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, with free messages so you can get to know your companion before deciding anything.
So is Kindroid worth it for you?
That depends on two checks you can make in an evening or two: whether its 50-message preview and 3-day trial leave you wanting more, and whether what a subscription adds, mainly memory, voice and companions that reach out, is worth $15.99 a month in the app, or usually a little less on the web, to you.
If you are still weighing up more than one app, our comparison of the best AI companion apps in 2026 sets six of them side by side by what each one is good at.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Kindroid cost?
In Kindroid's own in-app paywall on September 30, 2026, a Kindroid subscription was $15.99 a month, $42.99 for three months or $159.99 a year, with a 3-day free trial. On September 26, 2026 its help center listed lower prices for buying on its website: $13.99 a month, $37.99 for three months or $139.99 a year; it now shows no dollar prices and says the web is usually cheaper. Ultra and MAX are monthly add-ons on top, which the help center then priced at $28.99 and $68.99 a month in the app, or $24.99 and $59.99 on the web.
Is Kindroid free?
Free to try, not free to keep. Kindroid retired its free Lite model on October 1, 2026. What a newcomer gets is a single taste: 50 messages on the main model (15 in some regions), two Kindroids, 5,000 audio credits and as many as five selfies. Once that is used up you can read old chats but not send anything new until you begin the 3-day trial, which needs a payment method and turns into a paid subscription unless cancelled.
Is the Kindroid subscription worth it?
It depends on whether you want what it adds: Kindroid's full models, a longer short-term memory, Cascaded Memory, ten Kindroids and twenty group chats, video calls, custom voices, a monthly audio allowance, internet access, and companions that can message you first. The 50-message preview, on the same flagship model subscribers use, is a first taste of that before the trial.
Is Kindroid Ultra worth it?
Ultra is for people who already talk to Kindroid a lot and want it to hold more of the conversation. Kindroid's help center says the add-on tiers give access to higher memory capacity and that their price reflects the cost of serving long context. By the prices its help center listed on September 26, 2026, it cost $28.99 a month in the app on top of the standard subscription, a total of $44.98 a month. It is sold monthly only, and only to active users with significant chat and call history.
Is Kindroid MAX worth it?
MAX is Kindroid's top memory tier. It needs both the standard subscription and Ultra, and by the prices Kindroid's help center listed on September 26, 2026, it added $68.99 a month in the app, for a total of $113.97 a month, or $98.97 on the web. Over a year, paid monthly in the app, that is $1,367.64. Like Ultra, it is only offered to users with significant chat and call history.
What do people complain about in Kindroid's App Store reviews?
Of Kindroid's 144 most recent 1- and 2-star reviews on the US App Store, posted between August 2023 and September 2026, the main complaint was bugs or login problems in 25%, a change in personality or quality in 24%, price or the subscription in 20%, and forgetting in 13%. The figures come from our count of Apple's public review feed, retrieved September 17, 2026.
Is it cheaper to buy Kindroid on the website?
Usually. Kindroid's help center says prices are slightly lower on the web because of lower processing fees. On September 26, 2026 it listed the standard subscription at $13.99 a month on the web against $15.99 in the app, and $139.99 a year against $159.99; it now leaves the exact price to checkout. It also says you cannot move a subscription between the App Store, Google Play and the web until the current one runs out.
